Dog-Friendly Attractions in Oropesa del Mar

The 15th-century castle sits on a promontory above the old town and offers panoramic views of the coast and the Serra d'Irta. Dogs are welcome in the exterior grounds and on the access paths. The interior museum has limited dog access but the viewpoints and battlements are the real draw anyway. The walk up through the old town streets to reach it passes whitewashed houses and a small medieval church.

Oropesa's medieval old town sits on a hill above the modern beach resort and is a genuine surprise — whitewashed streets, a 16th-century church, and a scale that makes it possible to walk the whole thing with a dog in 45 minutes. Far fewer tourists than the beach area. Dogs on lead are welcome throughout the pedestrian streets and the small main plaza.

A flat cycling and walking route through the orange and lemon groves of the Plana Alta hinterland. The route passes through Cabanes, Torreblanca, and Benicàssim, mostly on quiet country roads and tracks. Dogs off lead are possible on the rural sections. The fragrance of orange blossom from February to May is remarkable. Bike rental is available in Oropesa town.

A 16th-century defensive watchtower standing directly on the beach at the southern end of Playa de la Concha. One of over 30 watchtowers built along this coastline to warn of Barbary pirate raids. The tower itself is not accessible inside, but the surrounding beach area and the view from beside it are worth a stop. Dogs on lead welcome in the surrounding area.
