Olbia

The main pedestrian street of the centre, lined with cafes, shops and palm trees, linking the old core to the harbour. You walk it on the leash and many terraces welcome dogs.

An 11th-century Romanesque church in granite, the most important medieval monument in Gallura. Dogs are not allowed inside; the square and forecourt can be seen on the leash.

A long, pale-sand beach a few minutes north of town, facing Tavolara island. Swimming and play outside the summer season; in summer, look for the dog-permitted sections.

A string of white-sand coves with turquoise water about fifteen minutes away, facing Tavolara. A superb setting for a waterside walk outside the peak-crowd months.

A Bronze Age nuragic settlement perched on the Cabu Abbas hill, overlooking the gulf of Olbia. An open-air site reached on foot, dogs welcome on the leash along the trail.

A museum set on a small island in the harbour, showing Roman shipwrecks and the history of ancient Terranova. An indoor space where dogs are not admitted; the surrounding quays can be walked on the leash.
