Getting Around Edinburgh with Your Pet

ScotRail runs inter-city trains from Edinburgh Waverley to Glasgow Queen Street (50 min), Aberdeen, Inverness, and Dundee. Up to two well-behaved dogs travel free per passenger on any ScotRail service. Dogs must be kept on a lead and under control at all times. Large dogs need to be on the floor; small dogs may sit on laps. No booking required for dogs.

Lothian Buses is Edinburgh's municipal bus operator covering the entire city and airport. Dogs are accepted free at the driver's discretion: small dogs in a secure carrier, or calm leashed dogs if the bus is not busy. Night buses (N lines) running after midnight also accept dogs. The airlink 100 express (Edinburgh Airport to Waverley) accepts well-behaved dogs on lead.

Edinburgh's tram network (extended in 2023 to Newhaven) connects the airport via York Place and St Andrew Square through to Ocean Terminal. Small dogs in a bag travel free. Larger dogs are accepted at the driver's discretion and must be on a short lead and not obstruct the aisle. The tram is the fastest dog-friendly link from Edinburgh Airport to the city centre, taking about 30 minutes to York Place.
