Dubai

The tallest tower on earth (828 m) presides over a downtown of fountains and boulevards. Pets are not allowed in the tower, the Dubai Mall or the indoor attractions; leashed dogs are at best tolerated on some outdoor promenades early in the day.

A district of towers and canals lined by a long, lively promenade. Leashed dogs are tolerated on some sections of the outdoor walkway during the cooler hours, but remain banned from the JBR beach itself.

Man-made lakes in the heart of the Al Marmoom desert reserve, popular with outdoor lovers. It is one of the few spots where leashed dogs are welcome; come early, carry plenty of water and avoid the scorching sand during the day.

The historic tidal creek, lined by the Al Seef heritage district, the souks and abra water-taxi crossings. Pets are not allowed in the covered souks or museums; leashed dogs are tolerated only on a few outdoor quay sections.

A large landscaped park between Downtown and the coast, with lawns and lakes. Like most of Dubai's municipal parks, it bans dogs; do not plan to walk your pet here and fall back on the few dedicated dog parks.

Long public beaches such as Kite Beach or La Mer are manicured and patrolled, but off-limits to dogs year-round. To let your pet enjoy the water you must aim for a designated dog beach away from the central public strips.
