Cromer is a genuinely dog-loving seaside town, but the seasonal beach rules are the thing to get right. From 1 May to 30 September dogs are banned from the main Cromer beach either side of the pier, and the ยฃ100 fixed penalty is enforced, so in summer use the promenade or head to East Runton, which stays dog-friendly all year, or the dog-friendly stretches of West Runton and Overstrand. From October to April the town beach opens fully to dogs. On the cliffs, keep dogs on a lead and well back from the crumbling, unfenced edges, and on a lead near livestock and ground-nesting birds inland. The dog-friendly Bittern Line makes it easy to walk the coast one way and train back. Finally, visitors bringing a dog from the EU into Great Britain now need a Great Britain Animal Health Certificate rather than the EU Pet Passport, plus a microchip, a valid rabies vaccination and, where required, tapeworm treatment. Arrange it with your vet well before you travel.
