Dog-Friendly Beaches in Cannes

The city's main public beach west of the old port. Plage du Midi is a long stretch of sand — the widest public beach in Cannes — with a more local, less glamorous atmosphere than the Croisette beach clubs. Dogs are permitted on the western section (beyond the main facilities) year-round and on the full beach outside the bathing season. The beach has public showers and a water fountain near the Boulevard du Midi road. The promenade running behind the beach is flat, shaded in parts, and ideal for a long dog walk.

The beach at La Bocca, the western suburb of Cannes, is a long and relatively uncrowded stretch of public sand that is far more dog-permissive than the Croisette beaches. The far western end of the Bocca beach, beyond the beach bars, allows dogs year-round without restriction. The beach is backed by a small esplanade with benches and shade, and the neighbourhood behind is quiet residential — good for a stroll before or after the beach. This is where Cannes locals who have dogs actually come in summer.

A forested island 15 minutes by ferry from the old port, home to the Fort Royal (where the Man in the Iron Mask was held) and 50 hectares of coastal forest. Dogs are permitted throughout the island's forest trails and coastal paths — one of the few places near Cannes where a dog can walk off-lead in a safe, natural environment. The surrounding sea views are spectacular and the island has a couple of restaurant-bars (dogs on terraces). The ferry takes dogs in the cabin.
