Dog-Friendly Parks in Alicante

Eleven hectares of palm grove laid out around three artificial lakes, streams and waterfalls at the southern edge of the city, Parque El Palmeral is the city's most genuinely shaded green space. The northern section has a fully fenced off-leash dog zone with automatic watering, and the perimeter paths are popular with morning and evening runners. Reachable on TAM city bus 21 (the same line that goes to Agua Amarga beach), the park is one of the few places in Alicante where summer midday walks are tolerable thanks to the palm canopy.

The closest proper park to the Explanada and the marina, Parque de Canalejas is a small but well-shaded square of century-old ficus trees with their characteristic aerial roots forming natural arches. Dogs must be on leash throughout — the park is in the urban core and not an off-leash zone — but it is the most practical green refuge between visits to the Explanada and the Casco Antiguo on a hot day. Benches and free water fountains for both humans and dogs.

A 3 km coastal ridge between the city and Playa de San Juan, the Serra Grossa is a former quarry site now waymarked as a hiking trail. The path climbs to about 150 m with panoramic views over the Gulf of Alicante and the Castillo de Santa Bárbara behind. Leashed dogs throughout, very little shade — strictly an early-morning or late-afternoon walk in summer. Reachable from the Albufereta TRAM stop with a 15-minute uphill walk.
