Bad Gastein

A 341 m waterfall dropping in three stages through the town centre, one of Europe's highest urban falls. Free platforms and trail, leashed dogs welcome; the path closes in winter.

A 140 m suspension bridge just below the Stubnerkogel summit (2,246 m), reached by gondola with the dog (5 EUR/day). A solid-floored bypass path avoids the grated deck if the dog balks.

A wide, almost level panoramic promenade above the town, laid out for imperial spa guests. Shaded and cool, it is the ideal daily dog walk, on leash.

A flat-floored side valley following a stream up to the Alpenhaus Prossau (1,278 m). Two dog-friendly huts en route and water everywhere: THE dog hike of the valley.

A high alpine valley at about 1,600 m beyond Böckstein, reached via the Gastein alpine road. Open meadows and high trails; keep the dog leashed near summer-grazing herds.

Local history museum in the Belle Époque heart of town, covering the spa story, the valley's gold-mining past and the grand hotel era. Interior reserved for assistance dogs.
