Sorrento is a 16 000-resident Campania cliff town in the Metropolitan City of Naples that serves as the gateway hub for the Amalfi Coast, Capri, Ischia and Pompeii (3 million tourists a year), with the historic Piazza Tasso, the panoramic Villa Comunale clifftop gardens 80 m above the Marina Grande old fishing port, the Marina Piccola hydrofoil hub (Capri 25 min, Ischia 50 min, Naples 35 min), the EAV Circumvesuviana that uniquely accepts muzzled dogs free of charge for the direct 35 min trip to Pompei Scavi, and the SITA SUD Amalfi Coast bus to Positano, Amalfi and the Path of the Gods trailhead.
