Budva

Budva's walled old town, with its Venetian ramparts, paved lanes and churches huddled facing the sea. Leashed dogs are welcome in the alleys, best explored early in the morning before the summer crowds.

The fortress crowning the southern tip of the old town, with open views over the bay and the sea. Entry to the enclosure is ticketed and pets are generally not allowed inside, but the rampart walk around it can be done on leash.

The two small sheltered beaches beneath the cliffs, linked to the old town by a coastal path. Busy and run as concessions in summer, they restrict dog access in high season, so prefer the quieter coves off-season.

Montenegro's most photographed island-village, joined to the coast by an isthmus and turned into a private resort, so closed to visitors. The viewpoint and road above it, however, can be enjoyed on leash and give the postcard shot.

A former fishing village linked to Budva by a long seaside promenade, prized for its flat walk along the coves. The path makes for a pleasant leashed stroll, morning and evening, once the heat eases.

A long open beach west of Budva, known for its big summer concerts and festivals. Its managed section limits dog access in high season, but the quieter wild end sometimes tolerates a leashed dog away from the supervised areas.
