Dubrovnik

The forested park just west of the Old Town walls is the best dog walk in central Dubrovnik. Shaded pine paths, sea views and a blessedly cooler temperature make it the go-to morning walk even in summer.

The car-free Elaphiti Islands are a revelation for dog owners. Lopud and Šipan have sandy paths, quiet coves and a tiny year-round population. A 1-hour ferry from Dubrovnik port; dogs travel free.

The charming coastal village of Cavtat, 20 minutes south of Dubrovnik by bus, is far less crowded and has a lovely seaside promenade. The hinterland Konavle Valley offers cycling tracks and vineyard walks with dogs welcome.

The Old Town walls are a UNESCO highlight but the narrow, stepped streets and extreme summer heat (40°C+) make them unsuitable for dogs. Visit the walls solo and plan dog time for early morning outside the walls.

The residential Lapad Peninsula, 3km from the Old Town, has a long seaside promenade (šetalište), pine-shaded parks and several dog-friendly beaches. Most Dubrovnik pet-friendly hotels are located here.
