A Coruña

The oldest working Roman lighthouse in the world, standing on a UNESCO-listed coastal headland. Leashed dogs are welcome on the wide lawns and sculpture park surrounding the tower, but not inside the monument itself.

One of the longest seafront promenades in Europe, nearly 13 km encircling the whole peninsula. Wide pavements, benches and fountains make it the go-to dog-walking route, pleasant even on windy days.

The two large city beaches right in the centre, popular with surfers and swimmers. Dogs are banned during the bathing season (roughly June to September); fall back on the adjoining promenade or a designated dog beach instead.

The grand arcaded square at the historic heart, dominated by the city hall and lined with café terraces. Leashed dogs are welcome across the square and the cobbled lanes of the surrounding old town.

A former coastal fort turned into a large panoramic park overlooking the mouth of the bay. Trails, lawns and a glass panoramic lift make it a perfect green escape for leashed dogs.

A spectacular municipal aquarium set right on the ocean edge near the Tower of Hercules, as is the neighbouring Domus interactive museum. Pets are not allowed inside, but the surrounding coastline makes for a fine walk.
