Pet-Friendly Attractions in Valldemossa

The Real Cartuja de Valldemossa is the village's emblem, a 14th-century Carthusian monastery built on the foundations of the Palau del Rei Sanç, where Frédéric Chopin and George Sand spent the winter of 1838-39 in cell 4 (the trip Chopin recounted with the famous line 'I am sick like a dog'). Leashed dogs are generally welcome in the outdoor cloister, the formal gardens and the courtyard, but not inside the Chopin/Sand museum cells or the church interior. Verify the day's policy at the entrance, especially during the summer Chopin Festival.

The casc antic of Valldemossa is a maze of narrow cobbled lanes and three-storey stone houses with flower-lined wooden balconies, all woven around the Plaça pública village square and the Església Parroquial de Sant Bartomeu. The Casa Natal de Santa Catalina Tomàs, birthplace of Mallorca's only Catholic saint (born here in 1531, canonised 1930), stands on Carrer Rectoria and is marked by a small chapel and ceramic tiles. Leashed dogs are welcome throughout the lanes, on the Plaça pública, and on every terrace, this is the village's daily social space.

The Mirador de Valldemossa is the second of the village's two famous viewpoints, on the small road that climbs north toward the Pla des Pouet and the Tramuntana ridge. The roadside terrace looks down on the entire village, the Cartuja bell tower at its centre, and the sweep of the orange and almond valley running west toward Esporles. Open, dog-friendly, and best at sunset when the village stone turns honey-gold. Combine with the Mirador des Pi des Català for the two angles.
