Best Dog-Friendly Parks & Lagoon Walks in Tavira

A flat 6 km loop of dyke paths through the working salt pans of Tavira, framed by flamingos, avocets and the white salt mountains of the working salinas. The route runs from the centre east to the Quatro Águas ferry pier and back, on-leash year-round, free, and best at dawn before the heat builds.

The riverside Jardim do Coreto sits between the Praça da República and the Ponte Romana, a small landscaped green space with century-old ficus trees, a bandstand and benches facing the water. From there a flat 1.5 km pedestrian promenade runs east along the Rio Gilão, ideal for an evening dog stroll.

A whitewashed clifftop hamlet 10 km east of Tavira with a 17th-century fort and a panoramic view over the Ria Formosa lagoon and Praia da Fábrica sandbar. A 2.5 km looping cliff path runs west along the lagoon edge through sea-grass dunes, on-leash year-round, free and almost empty outside summer weekends.
