Altitude Safety & Diavolezza Glacier (2,978 m)
Diavolezza cable car, 2,978 m ยท Diavolezza, 7504 Pontresina
Diavolezza at 2,978 m is the highest cable-car summit accessible from St. Moritz, with a panoramic restaurant, the Pers and Morteratsch glaciers underfoot, and a 10 km glacier hiking trail in summer. Leashed dogs are accepted on the cable car (small dogs free, large dogs CHF 5 return) and at the summit, but altitude affects them as it does humans: rapid breathing, lethargy, vomiting can appear above 2,500 m. Brachycephalic breeds (pugs, bulldogs) should not exceed 2,500 m. Limit time above 2,500 m to 30 to 60 min and hydrate aggressively.
๐ก Test your dog at Muottas Muragl (2,453 m) on day one. If they are calm and breathing normally after 30 min, you can attempt Diavolezza on day two. If they pant heavily, lie down or refuse to walk, descend immediately and skip Diavolezza.
