Dog-Friendly Walks & Alpine Trails around St. Moritz

The signature 4.5 km flat loop around Lej da San Murezzan (St. Moritz Lake) at 1,856 m links St. Moritz-Dorf and St. Moritz-Bad through lakeside paths, larch forest and the Mauritius Spring chapel. The lake freezes from late December to early April, hosting the Cresta Run, White Turf horse racing and Cricket on Ice. Leashed dogs are welcome year-round on the loop; in winter the cleared and salted path stays accessible. Multiple lakeside benches, two drinking fountains, and gravel banks where dogs can paddle in summer.

The Stazerwald is the protected larch and stone-pine forest covering the gentle plateau south of St. Moritz-Bad, with a 6 km network of nearly flat forest tracks linking the small lake Lej da Staz to Pontresina. The forest floor is soft duff with old larch needles, ideal on dog paws after rocky high-alpine trails. The Lej da Staz has a tolerated dog swim corner on its south-west bank (the family beach is east). Wildlife: red squirrels, alpine choughs, occasional capercaillie - leash discipline matters.

The 7 km Val Roseg trail from Pontresina station rises gently from 1,805 m to 2,000 m along the Ova da Roseg river, ending at the Roseg Gletscher view and the Hotel Roseggletscher (an 1880 mountain inn). The valley is closed to cars; horse-drawn carriages run in summer (dogs ride free on owner's lap). Spectacular larches, marmot colonies, and the Roseg, Sella and Bernina glaciers as the back wall. Leashed dogs welcome throughout. The Pontresina RhB station is 8 min from St. Moritz station.
