The Renaissance Ciutadella de Roses, a 16th-century fortified pentagonal enclosure built under Carlos V from 1543 onwards to defend the Bahรญa de Roses against Ottoman and French raids, on the site of the ancient Greek colony of Rhode (founded 8th century BC by Rhodians) and the Roman town of Rhodes. The walls, bastions and partly excavated ancient ruins (Greek agora, Roman domus, Visigoth necropolis, medieval monastery) form an open-air heritage site declared Bรฉ Cultural d`Interรจs Nacional.
๐ก Enter via the main bastion gate on Avenida de Rhode and walk the outer rampart loop counter-clockwise; the dog can lie in shade by the Greek agora foundations while one of you steps into the museum
