Dog Parks & Walks in Rethymno

Rethymno's central public garden on Igoumenou Gavriil Street is a green oasis of tall trees, flowering beds, shaded paths and a cooling fountain, a popular meeting point for locals. Its dense canopy makes it one of the few genuinely shaded walking spots in town, ideal for a leashed stroll with your dog out of the midday sun.

The Venetian Fortezza crowns a rocky headland above the old town, and the perimeter path around its walls offers wide sea views, sea breezes and a flat, open route for a leashed walk. While dogs are not permitted inside the paid fortress itself, the surrounding headland and coastal lanes are a breezy favourite for early-morning and sunset walks.

Stretching east from the old town along the town beach, Rethymno's flat seafront promenade runs for kilometres past cafes, palms and sand. It is the easiest long walk in town for a leashed dog, with a near-constant sea breeze and plenty of cafe stops where you can pause for water in the shade.
