Pet-Friendly Attractions in Rethymno

Rethymno's picture-perfect old Venetian harbour, ringed by tavernas and crowned by its 19th-century Egyptian lighthouse, is the heart of the town. The quayside is fully walkable with a leashed dog, and the surrounding terraces welcome pets, making it the natural starting point for a stroll through the old town.

One of the best-preserved Renaissance old towns in Greece, Rethymno's centre is a walkable maze of Venetian and Ottoman architecture, the Rimondi Fountain, minarets, arched doorways and craft shops. Dogs on a leash are welcome throughout the pedestrian streets, and the narrow lanes offer welcome shade during the hottest part of the day.

The 16th-century Venetian Fortezza dominates the rocky Paleokastro hill above the old town. While dogs cannot enter the paid fortress, the surrounding headland and its perimeter lanes are open and free, offering sweeping sea views and a breezy, leashed walk that is one of the most scenic in Rethymno.
