Dog-Friendly Riverbanks and Swimming Spots in Oxford

The 1 km stretch of Thames bordering Port Meadow has several shallow beach-style entries where dogs can wade and swim. The official Wolvercote bathing place at the northern end is a designated swimming area with sandy access — the only formal Environment Agency bathing site within Oxford city limits.

Thames Water's drinking-water reservoir 5 km west of Oxford with a 6.5 km dog-friendly perimeter path. Dogs must be on a lead at all times and are not allowed in the water (drinking-water source) — the appeal is the long flat circular walk with sweeping views.

A footpath following the Cherwell river on an island between two channels east of University Parks, with several wading-depth access points. Dogs must stay on a lead but can splash in the shallows; the path leads to the Magdalen Bridge punt station 800 m downstream.
