Most of Oxford's headline attractions — the Bodleian Library reading rooms, college quadrangles, the Ashmolean Museum and the Natural History Museum — are off-limits to dogs. The trade-off is that the city's best views are all from outdoors: the Radcliffe Camera square, the Bridge of Sighs alley, the Christ Church Meadow loop and the punting stations all welcome leashed dogs.

Long-established punt-hire station on the Cherwell in north Oxford, used by generations of students and visitors. Dogs ride free in the punt with their owners (well-behaved, on a short lead); the route upstream to the Victoria Arms pub is the quietest 90-minute round trip.

The Saxon-era motte and Victorian prison form a free-to-enter outdoor courtyard at the western edge of the city centre. Leashed dogs are welcome to walk the cobbled square and climb St George's Tower steps (outdoor section); the indoor guided prison tour does not accept dogs.
