Dog-Friendly Parks & Green Spaces in Nice

The crown jewel of dog walking in Nice. This hilltop park sits 92 metres above sea level on the rocky promontory separating Vieux-Nice from the port. The ruins of the original medieval castle are still visible, and the views from the top — the full sweep of the Baie des Anges and the orange rooftops of the old town — are genuinely spectacular. Dogs must be on leash throughout. The paths are well-maintained and shaded, with a waterfall, several terraces, and a children's area. Access is either via the lift from the Promenade des Anglais end, the stairs from Rue Rossetti, or the gentle slope from the port side.

Nice's oldest public garden, laid out in the 1850s at the point where the Paillon river once met the sea. Today it is a leafy, well-shaded garden with tall palm trees, fountains, and a bandstand where concerts are held in summer. It connects the Promenade des Anglais to the city centre and is a natural corridor for dog walking. Leashes are required. The garden is popular with locals at all hours and has a relaxed, neighbourhood feel despite being central. The Théâtre de Verdure amphitheatre on the edge of the garden is worth seeing.

A linear green promenade running through the heart of Nice's new town, between the Promenade des Anglais and the main shopping streets. It is a long, shaded pedestrian corridor lined with mature trees, benches, and flower beds. For urban dog walking — a mid-day relief stop, or a cool morning circuit — it is perfectly placed. It connects a series of small squares and intersects with the city's main shopping area. Dogs on leash are standard here. A practical, pleasant, and underused resource.

A modern, 12-hectare park opened in 2013, built over the Paillon river on a 1.2 kilometre stretch from the MAMAC museum to the Place Masséna. It is wide, open, and contemporary — water features, fountains that children (and dogs) wade through in summer, lawns, and event spaces. Dogs on leashes are allowed throughout. It is more of an urban amenity than a nature experience, but it is by far the most spacious green space in central Nice. The lawns are good for a sit-down break and the fountains provide water on hot days.
