Nice's relationship between dogs and beaches is complicated by seasonal restrictions. The Promenade des Anglais is lined with beaches — but from May 15 to September 15, dogs are banned from all main public beaches by municipal bylaw. This is strictly enforced. Outside that window, dogs on leash are permitted. There is one designated dog-friendly beach section (Plage des Ponchettes) and several private beach clubs with more flexible year-round policies. The good news: the Promenade des Anglais itself is always open to dogs on leash and is one of the world's great seafront walks.
