Getting Around Montreux with Pets

Switzerland's national rail network connects Montreux to Lausanne (22 min), Geneva (1h10), Bern (1h25 via Lausanne) and Brig (1h05). Dogs under 30 cm shoulder height travel free in a carrier, dogs above that height pay a half-price fare with no muzzle and no carrier required on standard services. The Gare de Montreux is on the lakefront and is the hub for SBB, the MOB GoldenPass Line, the MOB cog to Rochers-de-Naye and the VMCV trolley. Most platforms have direct lift access for hold luggage and pet carriers.

The MOB GoldenPass Line is the panoramic train link from Montreux to Zweisimmen (2h05) and onward to Interlaken (3h15 with a connection), one of Switzerland's most celebrated scenic rail journeys through the Préalpes, Gruyère and the Bernese Oberland. Dogs are accepted throughout the line at the standard SBB rate (half fare above 30 cm shoulder height, free in a carrier below). The panoramic cars have large picture windows ideal for a dog at your feet. Reservation is recommended in peak season for the GoldenPass Express direct service.

The CGN runs passenger boats and the historic Belle Époque paddle steamers on Lake Geneva connecting Montreux to Vevey (25 min), Lausanne (1h30), Geneva (4h scenic) and across the lake to Évian and Saint-Gingolph. Dogs are permitted on all CGN boats at no extra charge and are welcome on the open decks. The Montreux-Chillon-Villeneuve short route is a 20-minute ride along the steepest section of the Lavaux UNESCO terraces, a quintessential Riviera dog day out.
