Dog-Friendly Beaches and Lake Shores in Montreux

A small grassy public beach in the Clarens section of the Montreux commune, with a pebbly lake entry, a wooden jetty and a wide lawn. Per the Commune de Montreux ordinance, dogs are restricted from the bathing zone in summer (June to August) but are permitted leashed on the lawn and the lake entry off-season (October to May). In May and September the water is quiet, the pebble entry is easy on paws, and the view to the Dents du Midi across the lake is exceptional.

A small public lake beach on the Vevey lakefront below the Place du Marché, with lawn squares, a pebbly water entry and direct access to the Quais Fleuris promenade running on toward Montreux. Per the Commune de Vevey ordinance, dogs are restricted from the bathing zone in summer (June to August) but are permitted leashed across the lawn and lake entry off-season (October to May). A short walk west reaches the Charlie Chaplin statue and the Alimentarium, lakeside landmarks worth combining with a dog walk.

The UNESCO-listed Lavaux vineyard terraces stretch 800 hectares along the north shore of Lake Geneva from Lutry to Chillon. The Sentier Viticole wine trail runs 32 km through the terraces, dogs on leads permitted throughout, with several lakeside descents to villages including Saint-Saphorin, Rivaz and Cully. The harvest season (mid-September to mid-October) is the high point, many cellars open their doors with tastings and dog bowls. A standard half-day from Montreux is the boat to Cully, walk the Sentier east to Saint-Saphorin then train back to Vevey or Montreux.
