Parks and Green Spaces in Montreux

Montreux's defining lakeside ribbon: seven kilometres of flowered promenade running unbroken from Vevey through Clarens and Montreux centre down to Villeneuve, with the bronze statue of Freddie Mercury (1996) facing the lake at its midpoint and Lake Geneva's full Alpine panorama as the constant backdrop. Dogs on leads are welcome the entire length and benches and water troughs are spaced regularly. The flat asphalt path is suitable for older dogs and is shaded in long stretches by plane trees. The Vevey-Villeneuve walk is a full half-day at dog pace.

An alpine botanical garden at 2042 m on the summit of the Rochers-de-Naye, reached from Montreux station by the MOB cog railway in 55 minutes. The garden curates around 1000 alpine species from across the world's mountain ranges on the south-facing slopes just below the summit. Dogs on leads are permitted on the paths, and there is an adjacent marmot park where visitors can observe Alpine marmots from a fenced viewing area (dogs stay leashed and at distance). The summit gives a full panorama from Mont Blanc to the Bernese Alps with Lake Geneva 2000 m below.

A small leafy lakeside park beside the Place du Marché, named for the white swans that gather on the water just below. Plane trees, benches, lawn squares and direct access to the Quais Fleuris promenade make it a natural breathing space between the old town shopping streets and the lakefront walk. Dogs on leads are welcome throughout the park. Swans nest along the shore here from March to May, take a short detour around the nesting areas with a dog.
