Dog-Friendly Beaches near Mahón

Cala Mesquida is the closest sandy beach to Mahón, a small bay backed by low dunes and a single fishermen's cove. From November to March it becomes a favourite local dog beach with empty sand and clear shallow water; in summer it is one of the most accessible regulated beaches but dogs are not permitted during the bathing-season ban. The Camí de Cavalls passes directly behind the dunes for a longer pet-friendly coastal walk year-round.

Es Grau is the long sandy beach at the foot of the S'Albufera des Grau Natural Park, fronted by a fishing village of low whitewashed houses. The beach itself follows the Balearic seasonal ban, but the salt-marsh trails behind it and the Camí de Cavalls northwards stay open to dogs on a leash year-round. From November to March the beach also reopens to dogs and is one of the most atmospheric off-season walks anywhere on Menorca.

Cala Sant Esteve is a long narrow inlet cutting inland from the entrance to the Port de Maó, framed by the British-era fortifications of Fort Marlborough and the Sant Felip castle. It is more of a rocky swimming cove than a sandy beach, the perfect kind of intimate Menorcan inlet where local dogs join their owners for an evening swim outside the busy summer weeks. The Camí de Cavalls passes the entrance to the cala on its way around the headland.
