Linz Linien (Straßenbahn & Bus)
💡 Carry a soft fabric muzzle in your bag — controllers do check, and the on-the-spot fine for not having one is €105.
Linz is compact and walkable — the Altstadt, Hauptplatz, river and main station are all within a 20-minute walk of each other — but the Linz Linien tram network is the smoothest way to cover longer distances. Dogs of any size travel free with a valid monthly or annual pass (since 1 September 2022); on a single ticket the dog needs a dog ticket. A muzzle (Maulkorb) and a short leash are MANDATORY on all trams, buses and the Pöstlingbergbahn. Assistance dogs are exempt from the muzzle requirement. For trips outside the city, ÖBB trains accept leashed muzzled dogs on a discounted dog ticket.

💡 Carry a soft fabric muzzle in your bag — controllers do check, and the on-the-spot fine for not having one is €105.

💡 The line is steep (1:9 gradient) and the wooden carriages are small — sit at the rear with a large dog so the standing passengers do not crowd around.

💡 Book a Family/Family compartment on the Railjet if you have a big dog — there is more floor space and other travellers expect dogs and children together.
