Dog-Friendly Parks & Off-Leash Areas in Linz

The largest dedicated off-leash zone in Linz, on the north bank of the Danube under the railway bridge in Urfahr. The riverside meadow runs for about 800 m, separated from the parallel cycle path, and dogs can swim in the Danube at the gravel beach at the western end. There is no full fence (the river itself forms one side), so it is best for recall-trained dogs. Free, no booking, open dawn to dusk year-round; the parking lot on Heilhamer Weg is free.

A long landscaped park running 1.2 km along the south bank of the Danube between the Nibelungenbrücke and the Brucknerhaus concert hall, with sculpture installations from the Forum Metall outdoor art collection. Dogs must be on a leash here — it is not a Hundefreilaufzone — but the wide gravel paths, mature plane trees and constant view of the river make it the city's most popular daily on-leash walk. Free, open 24/7, well-lit until 23:00.

The forested hill that rises 539 m above the north bank of the Danube, crowned by the pilgrimage Basilica and reached by the Pöstlingbergbahn (one of the world's steepest adhesion railways). The Waldgebiet around the summit is a working pine and beech forest crossed by marked trails; leashed dogs are welcome everywhere outdoors. From the summit terrace the view stretches to the Alps on a clear day. The Pöstlingbergbahn carries dogs free with a valid monthly ticket; muzzle required.
