Dog Beaches near Leiden, Katwijk & Noordwijk North Sea Coast

The closest North Sea dog beach to Leiden, 10 km west by Connexxion bus 30. Katwijk has dedicated off-leash dog zones at the northern end (toward Noordwijk) and the southern end (toward Wassenaar) all year round, and the entire beach is open to off-leash dogs outside the summer restriction window (verify the current municipal ordinance, broadly 10:00-19:00 in June-August in the central swimming zone, free elsewhere). Old fishing-village atmosphere, beach pavilions, and the iconic 1605 Andreaskerk church on the dunes behind.

A wide 13 km stretch of sandy North Sea beach 14 km northwest of Leiden, backed by tall dunes and the Coepelduynen Natura 2000 reserve. Dogs are allowed off-leash on the entire beach outside the marked summer central swimming zone (broadly mid-June to mid-August, 10:00-19:00); off-leash all hours October-March on the full beach. The boulevard pavilions are dog-friendly all year and serve hot chocolate on cold winter walks.

A wilder, less crowded beach south of Katwijk and Noordwijk, 15 km south of Leiden, backed by the protected Meijendel dunes (the largest dune reserve between The Hague and Leiden). Off-leash for dogs October 1 to March 1 on the entire beach; in summer dogs must be leashed except in marked end-zones. The dune trails behind the beach add a 6-8 km leashed loop through pine and oak woodland with deer and rabbits.
