Dog-Friendly Parks & Walks in La Rochelle

La Rochelle is unusually green for a French coastal city, and most of that green is dog-friendly. The crown jewel is the Parc Charruyer, a long ribbon of landscaped park that traces the line of the old ramparts in a green belt almost two kilometres from the city centre to the sea. It is the daily walking ground of half the dogs in La Rochelle. Beyond it, the Parc d'Orbigny and the wooded fringes of the Mail offer shade and lawns, while the coastal path out to the Pointe des Minimes gives sea air and open sky. Dogs are required on leads in the formal parks, but the sheer length of the Charruyer green belt and the sea-front promenades means a dog here is never short of a proper walk. Add the flat, bike-friendly geography and you have one of the easiest French cities to walk a dog.
