Dog-Friendly Attractions in La Rochelle

La Rochelle wears its history on the outside, and that makes it a gift for dog owners. The three medieval towers guarding the Vieux Port, the Tour Saint-Nicolas, the Tour de la Chaîne and the Tour de la Lanterne, dominate the harbour, and the quays and ramparts around them are open, leashed-dog-friendly walking. The Vieille Ville, with its arcaded streets and merchant houses, is a maze made for slow exploration with a dog at your side. The Vieux Port itself is the centrepiece: a working harbour ringed by terraces where the whole city seems to gather. The Aquarium, the city's biggest indoor draw, does not admit dogs, but the outdoor geography is so rich, towers, ramparts, arcades and harbour, that a dog owner is never short of something to see.
