Best Parks & Dog Walks in Ischia

The island's highest point at 789 m, a green volcanic cone reached by marked trails from Fontana above Serrara, ending at a rock-cut hermitage and a 360-degree view over the Bay of Naples. Leashed dogs are welcome on the open mountain paths and it is noticeably cooler up here than on the coast. The final stretch is steep and rocky, so it suits a fit dog.

A shaded public pine grove running along the seafront between Ischia Porto and Ischia Ponte, a cool, flat green corridor that is one of the easiest dog walks on the island. Leashed dogs are welcome on the paths under the umbrella pines, with sea views and plenty of benches. It links the harbour to the Aragonese Castle area on foot without touching the road.

A scenic coastal walk from the car-free fishing village of Sant'Angelo along the cliffs above the long Maronti beach, with sea views and quiet corners. Leashed dogs are fine on the path, which links the village to the eastern end of Maronti. Keep well clear of the fumarole hot-spots along this shore, where the ground and sand can be dangerously hot for paws.
