Ischia's most famous landmark, a fortified islet crowned by a medieval castle and reached by a stone causeway from Ischia Ponte. The site is largely open-air, a climb through ramparts, terraces, churches and gardens with sweeping sea views. Leashed dogs are generally welcome on the outdoor walkways, though it is worth confirming at the ticket office; the paths are steep, so pace an older dog.
๐ก Go early to beat the heat and crowds; carry water, as the climb through the ramparts is long and sun-exposed.
