Dog-Friendly Beaches in Hyères

The only officially sanctioned dog beach in Hyères, set up by the municipality on the east coast between L'Ayguade and Les Salins. The dog zone is delimited by wooden ganivelles, signed at the entrances, and equipped with free poop-bag dispensers and bins. Sand is fine and the water shelves gently, suitable for dogs of all sizes.

Strictly speaking these are the wild stretches of sand between the Mérou cani-plage and the eastern end of the Vieux Salins. They are not formally classified as supervised beaches, and outside the bathing season they function as long, empty dog-walking stretches with no swimmers and the Vieux Salins wetland immediately behind. Wind exposure is high; check the mistral forecast first.

Listed here as a warning rather than a recommendation: the three best-known beaches on the Giens tombolo (the windsurf-famous Almanarre, La Bergerie and La Madrague) all explicitly ban dogs year-round per municipal rules. Walking access ends at the dunes; if you have a dog, plan your beach time at the Mérou cani-plage instead.
