Parks & Green Spaces in Gothenburg

Gothenburg's most-loved urban park — 137 hectares of mixed forest, open meadow, and formal gardens with free-roaming deer, moose, and flamingos (in the open animal enclosures). Dogs are permitted throughout most of the park. The northern section has designated off-leash areas where dogs can run freely. The park has multiple entrances, a café, and a network of well-maintained paths. For Gothenburg dog owners, the morning Slottsskogen circuit is the daily ritual. The park is never truly empty — even in winter there are dog walkers, runners, and families at all hours.

The 19th-century Garden Society park in the heart of Gothenburg — an enclosed formal garden with a Victorian palm house, an extensive rose garden (one of the finest in Scandinavia), and a popular outdoor café. Dogs on leads are permitted in the park and on the café terrace. Admission is charged for adults, but the park's beauty and tranquillity make it worth it for a slow afternoon walk. The café is excellent for post-walk fika.

A linear park running alongside the Kungsportsavenyn — Gothenburg's main boulevard — from the Kungsportsplatsen to the Götaplatsen. Kungsparken is the central green spine of the city, popular with dog walkers at all hours. The park is shaded by mature trees, has benches at regular intervals, and connects naturally to the Trädgårdsföreningen at its southern end. Free and open at all times.
