Pet-Friendly Parks & Trails in Getxo

A flat coastal trail running from the 18th-century Molino de Aixerrota windmill along the Galea cliffs toward Azkorri and Sopelana. The first half is fully accessible in concrete and compacted gravel with frequent benches and water fountains, dogs are welcome on leash throughout and the views over the Cantabrian Sea are spectacular all year.

A tree-lined promenade through the Neguri district, the historic summer-residential quarter of Bilbao's industrial bourgeoisie, with Romantic-era and modernist mansions on both sides. Public sidewalks and small green pockets open to leashed dogs, an ideal flat alternative when the cliff path is too windy.

Getxo's municipal council expanded the network of designated dog-recreation zones to 17 in 2022, distributed across Algorta, Areeta, Romo and Andra Mari. Each zone is fenced or signposted with clear off-leash hours, and the full map is published on the official Ayuntamiento website.
