Swimming Spots near Fundão with a Dog

A well-maintained river beach on the Zêzere, with clear cold water, a small sandy bank and natural shade. Dogs are allowed in the river and on the grassy areas alongside. Not the official swimming zone, which is reserved for humans.

A remote river beach on the Ponsul river near the Roman ruins of Idanha-a-Velha. Very low visitor numbers outside August. Dogs swim freely along most of the river banks. The UNESCO-listed Roman ruins are walkable with a dog on leash.

A traditional thermal spa village in the foothills of Serra da Estrela. The Hotel Termal da Unhais da Serra has outdoor pools and a spa; dogs are accepted at the hotel and in the surrounding village walks. Not a swimming beach, but ideal for a dog-friendly overnight retreat combining mountain walks and recovery.
