Pet-Friendly Attractions in Fréjus

The 1st-century Roman amphitheatre, restored and still used for concerts and bullfights, is one of the most complete in southern France. Unusually for a French monument, dogs on a leash are admitted inside on standard visits (subject to special events). The tour takes 30 to 40 minutes around the tiered seating.

The medieval old town centres on the Place Formigé and the Cathédrale Saint-Léonce with its 5th-century baptistery, one of the oldest Christian structures in France. The cathedral interior and cloister are not dog-friendly, but the entire walking circuit through narrow streets and small squares is leashed-dog territory.

The Massif de l'Estérel just east of Fréjus is a 30 sq km red-porphyry coastal range crossed by marked trails. The flagship is the 4 km loop up to the Pic du Cap Roux (453 m) with a 360-degree view over the bay. Dogs on leads are welcome on all marked trails outside the summer fire-risk closures (typically July and August in red-alert periods).
