Estepona is a relaxed, walkable Costa del Sol town that rewards dog owners who plan around the heat and the summer beach rules. Heat & Paw Safety
Andalusian summers are intense, often above 28 to 30°C, and the seafront has almost no shade. Outside those months dogs are more widely tolerated on quieter local beaches.
Arriving & Getting Around
Estepona has no train station, so most visitors arrive through Málaga (AGP) airport. Spanish buses only carry small dogs (under 10 kg in a carrier), so a larger dog means a pre-booked pet-friendly transfer or a hire car. To bring a dog into Spain from the EU you need a microchip, a valid rabies vaccination and an EU pet passport; non-EU arrivals need an EU animal health certificate.
