Dog-Friendly Riverside Spots near Düsseldorf

A small sand-and-pebble Rhine beach below the Rheinkniebrücke, on the left bank in Oberkassel. Dogs are welcome on the open Rheinwiesen lawns adjacent to the beach (leashed by city ordinance), and the river itself is unfenced — but Rhine currents are strong, so dog swimming is at the owner's risk only.

An 83-hectare lake 20 minutes south-east of the centre, with two official Hundebadestellen (designated dog-bathing spots) on the western and northern shores. Dogs may swim and run off-leash inside these zones; the rest of the lake's circular path requires a leash. The lake's main beach (Strandbad Nord) admits only assistance dogs.

A reclaimed gravel-pit lake on the southern edge of the Düsseldorf metropolitan area, with one of the largest dog-bathing zones in North Rhine-Westphalia. Dogs may run off-leash and swim freely inside the marked Hundebadestelle on the eastern shore; the rest of the lake's path requires a leash.
