Dog-Friendly Beaches near Dubrovnik

The Lapad Bay beach area has a small designated dog-friendly section near the western end of the bay. Outside the main summer restriction period (June 1–October 1), the entire Lapad Bay beach is more relaxed about dogs. The beach is a mix of pebble and concrete platforms. The surrounding promenade is dog-friendly year-round. This is the most accessible beach option for dog owners staying near the Old Town.

Šunj is one of the most beautiful beaches in the entire Dalmatian archipelago — a long, shallow sandy bay on the car-free island of Lopud, a 50-minute ferry ride from Dubrovnik. Outside the June–September main season, dogs are permitted on the beach. The walk across Lopud island to Šunj (30 minutes from the ferry dock) passes through olive groves and pine forest — a beautiful walk with a dog. Even in season, the beach is far less crowded than anything on the mainland coast.

Koločep is the smallest and closest of the Elaphiti Islands, just 30 minutes by ferry from Gruž. The island has two small settlements connected by a forest path and several secluded rocky coves where dogs can swim freely outside the main season. The island is almost completely car-free and quiet. A perfect half-day option for dog owners — the ferry schedule allows a morning trip and afternoon return.
