Pet-Friendly Attractions in Dubrovnik

Dubrovnik's UNESCO Old Town is one of Europe's most spectacular walled cities, and dogs on-leash are technically permitted throughout the outdoor streets and on the famous city walls circuit (2 km, 1–1.5 hours). The walls offer extraordinary views of the Old Town rooftops and the Adriatic Sea beyond. In summer, the walls are fully exposed with no shade — a genuine danger for dogs. Visit before 08:00 in July–August. Spring and autumn the walls are manageable and extraordinarily beautiful.

Lopud is the most popular of the Elaphiti Islands and the single best day trip destination from Dubrovnik with a dog. The island is completely car-free, with a village seafront, olive groves, a ruined Franciscan monastery, and a 30-minute walk through pine and olive forest to the magnificent Šunj beach (sandy, unique for the Adriatic). Dogs are welcome throughout the island paths. Outside June–September, dogs can swim at Šunj. The pace is entirely different from Dubrovnik — peaceful, local, and utterly beautiful.

The area around the Old Harbour (Stara Luka) inside the Old Town walls is the most comfortable area to explore with a dog in the Old Town itself. The harbour front, the small fishing boats, and the surrounding lanes near the fish market are accessible with dogs and give the most authentic picture of Dubrovnik's working town beneath the tourist surface. The outdoor areas of the Rector's Palace loggia are also accessible. Dogs are not permitted in the Rector's Palace interior.
