Dog-Friendly Parks in Copenhagen

Copenhagen's largest park, with over 58 hectares of open lawns, tree-lined paths, and sports facilities. Fælledparken has multiple designated off-leash dog zones (hundeskov) where dogs can run freely. The park is particularly popular on weekend mornings, when it fills with locals and their dogs doing laps of the long allées. The scale is unusual for a city park — you can walk for an hour without feeling confined. Dogs must be on leash outside the designated off-leash zones.

One of Copenhagen's most beautiful parks, with English-style landscaping, canals, and the backdrop of Frederiksberg Palace. Dogs must be kept on leash throughout most of Frederiksberg Have, but the adjacent Søndermarken park (directly connected) has designated off-leash areas and a more relaxed atmosphere. The combination of the two parks gives you one of the best long dog walks in the city: formal beauty in Frederiksberg Have followed by free running in Søndermarken.

The resting place of Hans Christian Andersen and Søren Kierkegaard doubles as one of Copenhagen's most beloved neighbourhood parks. Locals use Assistens Cemetery as a daily dog-walking route — particularly the residents of Nørrebro, who treat it as a green lung in an otherwise dense urban neighbourhood. Dogs must be kept on leash throughout, but the winding tree-lined paths and overgrown character make it one of the most atmospheric walks in the city. An entirely genuine Copenhagen experience.

A vast and largely wild common on the island of Amager, just south of the city centre. Amager Fælled is a nature reserve with open meadows, wetlands, and woodland paths that extends for kilometres. It has a more rural feel than any other park in Copenhagen. Dogs are welcome on leash on the marked paths. The neighbouring Amager Strandpark beach is a short walk away, making this a natural pairing for a full day out with your dog.
