Dog-Friendly Beaches near Copenhagen

A large artificial beach and recreational area on the eastern coast of Amager island, just 5 km from the city centre. Amager Strandpark is split into different zones, and dogs are allowed in designated sections and throughout the park outside the summer bathing season (October to April). The northern end of the park has a specifically dog-friendly area where off-leash swimming and play on the beach is permitted. The Metro Line 2 (Amager Strand station) makes this extremely accessible.

An iconic 1930s Arne Jacobsen-designed beach lido north of Copenhagen, accessible by S-Tog in about 20 minutes. Bellevue Strand has designated dog-friendly zones at the northern and southern ends of the beach. Dogs must stay within these zones during the summer season. Outside peak summer, restrictions are lifted in most areas. The setting is beautiful — the Øresund strait here is wide and the Swedish coast is visible on the horizon. The Bakken amusement park and Dyrehaven deer park are a short walk away.

A long stretching beach park south of Copenhagen along Køge Bay, less visited than the city beaches and notably more relaxed about dogs. Several sections of Køge Bugt Strandpark are explicitly dog-friendly with off-leash areas, and outside the summer peak the whole beach becomes much more accessible for dogs. The scale is impressive — the beach runs for several kilometres and there is rarely a sense of being crowded. Good option for a longer half-day trip from the city.
