Dog-Friendly Parks and Green Spaces in Ciutadella

The Plaça d'es Born is the symbolic centre of Ciutadella, a vast Italianate square framed by the 19th-century Ajuntament (former British governor's palace), the obelisk commemorating the 1558 Ottoman raid, and a row of aristocratic palaces. The square is fully pedestrianised and is one of the most pleasant urban dog walks in Menorca at dusk, when the cliffs of the port open below and the locals come out for the paseo. Dogs on a leash are welcome throughout.

Pla de Ses Salines is the small salt-pan nature reserve at the head of the Port de Ciutadella, a flat wetland of disused 18th-century salt works now protected as a Ramsar bird habitat. A 1.5 km boardwalk and dirt loop circles the lagoon and is open to dogs on a leash year-round. The reserve attracts flamingos, egrets, and migrating waders in spring and autumn and is one of the most accessible bird walks on the western half of Menorca.

The Plaça d'Alfons III is the eastern gate of the old town, marking the line of the medieval city wall, with the Bastió de sa Font, the only surviving bastion of the 17th-century fortifications, just across. The bastion now houses a small archaeology museum and its outdoor ramparts walk gives a panoramic view back into the old town. Dogs on a leash are welcome on the square and the outdoor ramparts perimeter. The location is convenient for visitors arriving from the airport bus, which terminates two blocks away.
