Dog-Friendly Beaches near Ciutadella

Cala Macarella and its smaller twin Cala Macarelleta are the two most photographed coves on Menorca, twin turquoise inlets framed by Aleppo pines on the south-west coast. From November to March the Ajuntament of Ciutadella allows leashed dogs on the beach itself, and during the bathing season the Camí de Cavalls behind the dunes stays open year-round to dogs on a leash. The off-season morning walk from Macarella to Macarelleta over the headland is one of the most spectacular pet-friendly beach walks in the western Mediterranean.

Cala en Turqueta is the most colour-saturated of the south-western coves of Menorca, named for its glass-clear turquoise water and framed by Aleppo pines that come down almost to the sand. Per Ajuntament of Ciutadella ordenanza, leashed dogs are welcome from November 1 to March 31; the cove is one of the calmest off-season beach walks on the island. The Camí de Cavalls passes immediately behind the dunes and remains pet-friendly on a leash year-round.

Cala Galdana is the largest and most family-oriented south-coast beach, set in a sheltered horseshoe bay with a small harbour. The beach itself follows the Balearic seasonal ban, but the Camí de Cavalls running west from Cala Galdana towards Cala Macarella and east towards Cala Mitjana stays open year-round to dogs on a leash and is the most accessible pet-friendly south-coast hike in summer when the coves themselves are off limits. Several seafront café terraces in Cala Galdana accept well-behaved dogs.
