Best Parks & Green Spaces in Catania

Catania's grand 19th-century urban garden, also known as Giardino Bellini, stretches uphill from Via Etnea on multiple terraced levels with statues, palms, fountains, a panoramic viewpoint and a calendar made of flowers. Leashed dogs are welcome on every path and locals walk theirs here morning and evening. The shade is real, the gradients gentle, and Mount Etna sits framed by the Norman pines on a clear day.

A wooded uphill park on the north side of Catania built on a lava flow from the 1669 eruption, with pine groves, jogging trails and the city's only proper forested setting. Leashed dogs are welcome throughout and the upper trails offer Etna views without the crowds of Villa Bellini. The terrain is uneven in places, so older dogs do better on the lower paved loops.

A neighbourhood park in Picanello on the eastern slope of the city, with one of the very few proper fenced off-leash dog areas (area cani) in central Catania. Toys are allowed inside the enclosure, evening lighting lets you visit after the heat drops in summer, and the surrounding park is open for leashed walks. A genuine local-dog scene rather than a tourist sight.
