Pet-Friendly Sights & Walks in Catania

The Baroque main square at the heart of Catania, dominated by the lava-and-marble cathedral of Sant'Agata, the Fontana dell'Elefante elephant statue carved from lava (the city's symbol) and the Amenano fountain. Open public square, perfect on a leash, with several pet-friendly terraces around the perimeter. The cathedral interior is not open to dogs.

A short pedestrian stretch lined with four Baroque churches and convents in a row, considered the most photogenic axis of Baroque Catania. Always open, paved in lava stone, free, and easy with a dog on the leash. The interiors of the churches do not admit dogs but the street is the highlight.

A 13th-century fortress built by Emperor Frederick II, still showing its four original corner towers and curtain walls after centuries of lava flows and earthquakes that left the castle stranded inland. The piazza outside the castle is a free, open square ideal for a leashed walk and a photo stop. The Museo Civico inside the castle does not admit non-assistance dogs.
