Getting Around Burgos with a Pet

The municipal urban bus network. Small pets are admitted in a closed carrier under the rules of the Servicio Municipalizado de Movilidad y Transportes; large dogs without a carrier are not admitted on board. Guide dogs travel free with their handler. Walking is faster than the bus in the historic centre.

The main railway station, Burgos-Rosa de Lima, sits on the AVE/Avant high-speed line linking Madrid, Valladolid and Bilbao. Renfe national rules apply: small pets up to 10 kg travel free in a closed carrier; larger dogs are admitted on AVE, Avant and Larga Distancia services with a leash, muzzle and a paid pet ticket (Mascota Renfe pass).

The regional airport in Villafría, 4 km east of the city, is operated by Aena. Pet policy follows the rules of the operating airlines: small pets in cabin in a closed carrier under the seat are standard; large dogs travel in the hold. Many travellers fly into Bilbao (BIO) or Madrid (MAD) and connect by AVE rather than via Burgos.
